Project Description:
The HemoSystem, consisting of the three main components HemoSorbent, HemoDevice and HemoDisposable, represents a new innovation in the field of multi-target precision medicine blood purification with ultra-high efficiency and selectivity using magnetic beads. In contrast to conventional blood purification methods, which use filter cartridges to filter a wide range of substances from the blood – including substances that should remain in the blood (e.g. white blood cells) – the HemoSystem only selectively removes substances (e.g. toxins) from the blood.
Using the Hemodevice, which is similar to a conventional dialysis machine, the HemoSorbent, which contains the non-toxic HemoBeads, is introduced into the patient’s extracorporeal bloodstream. The HemoBeads contain an ultra-magnetic core, a non-sticky polymer and affinity binders that bind only to the desired compounds. By using different binders, the beads can be orientated towards different targets.
The beads and the targets bound to them are highly efficiently removed from the blood in a magnetic filter before the blood flows back to the patient. This ensures that the beads do not enter the patient’s body.
Project order:
As part of the development of the HemoDevice, seleon developed the required embedded software and the application with user interface according to the seleon software development project. Since the customer does not have its own software development process, seleon took over the planning, management and initially also the development of the software itself. As a result, seleon assumed responsibility for the entire software development for the HemoDevice. Later, at the customer’s request, the development of the required software was transferred to Hemotune in order to build up its own expertise. Under the guidance of seleon, 4 complete software releases were developed and have already been tested several times in usability studies.
In addition, seleon was allowed to develop almost the entire hardware and internal cabling. Starting with the development of the insulation concept for the fulfilment of basic safety in accordance with IEC 60601-1, through the development of the main PCB and the creation and development of the cabling plan and the required cable harnesses, to the selection of the necessary components for the battery-supported temporary mobile power supply.
